Bulletins
…but we fly back to the US in a week and we’re busy eating up every last morsel of our travel pie. So, this means postings might be light in the next week as we hike our way through Patagonia. If you want to know exactly where we’re headed in the next 7 days (and the following few months, as we continue our travels in the US!), check out our map.
For those who haven’t quite noticed yet, we’re about 4 months behind on the blog. We’re in Argentina right now, but we’ve only gotten as far as Turkey on 12FOOT3. Never fear, we’ll catch up…there are some great travel stories ahead so stay with us! It will be worth it!
And since you’ve been so patient, here’s a sneak preview of where we are RIGHT NOW (in Bariloche, a medium-size town in Argentina’s Lake District):
Jeremy hiking through snow on Cerro Lopez, with fabulous views of the Lake District!
Last year, we were in New Zealand looking forward to the year ahead. This year, we’re in Buenos Aires (with Martina!), immensely thankful for the year we were given.
We are thankful for this experience, we are thankful for our friends and family that supported us throughout this trip, we are thankful for the technology that enabled us to keep in touch with those we love, and we are thankful for your emails and the comments you have written on this blog that make us feel like home really isn’t so far away. We are thankful for this world and the people that make it such an amazing place to inhabit (that’s you!).
Happy Thanksgiving!
We’re also thankful for Argentinian beef! Our Thanksgiving dinner, 2009.
Once again, we’ve updated our map! Gone is the dumb timeline thingy—Jeremy has replaced it with a much more user-friendly list, including information on our dates and length of stay, as well as links to our blog posts and photos (on Flickr) from each destination. If you don’t see blog and photo links for a certain location, it’s because we haven’t posted them yet…yes, we’re very behind but we’re committed to telling you all our travel stories so just hold your horses, Bronco!
Check out the map and let us know what you think!
Hiya! Just a quick note to let you know that we’ve added a couple of features to our map. Now, when you click on a destination on the map or a portion of the timeline, not only will you see a link to all blog posts mentioning that destination (provided I’ve blogged about it), but you’ll also see a link to our photos of that place on Flickr (provided I’ve uploaded them)! Handy, huh? Note that since I’m a bit behind on the posts, you will only see active links for our travels through Japan.
PLUS, since the blog and our actual location are not always in sync (for example, we’re in Turkey right now, but our blog is only updated through Takayama), we’ve added a little icon on the map to let you know where we are…Right. This. Second. So, if you find yourself wondering “where the heck are Hope and Jeremy?” just check the map! We promise to update this far more often than we post. Cross our hearts.
And, here’s a taste of where we’re at now:
View as we fly into Beijing from Tokyo. Apologies for the dirty window!
Hiya! Just a quick note to let y’alls know that we’ve updated our route map! Our original plan was to fly to Jordan after China, but we just discovered that it’s going to be “capital H” Hot there right now. So we’ve added London as a destination, mostly because we have friends there (and we’ve had such an amazing time visiting places where we know peeps!), but also to kill sometime while this planet cools down a bit (at least in the northern hemisphere).
Note that for all future destinations on our map, we’ve only added our flight points…for instance, when we’re in London, we will actually be visiting Ireland and…some other mystery country (possibly Sweden because we have family there, but we are open to other suggestions if you’ve got ‘em!), even though our map only shows that we will be in London for 3 weeks. Also, we show Madrid as a destination, but we won’t be staying there long (if at all). Due to restrictions with our around-the-world tickets, we are just using Madrid as a jumping-off point to go to northern Africa (Morocco, possibly Tunisia). Our plans have been rather fluid as of late, and it feels right to make decisions as we go, so we just don’t want to jump the gun and say we are going to be somewhere and then disappoint you later.
As a general guideline, here is our future travel schedule:
- July 16 to August 10: London, Ireland, mystery country (possibly Sweden or Denmark)
- August 10 to September 7: Turkey
- September 7 to September 16: Jordan
- September 16 to October 2: Egypt
- October 2 to October 16: Morocco or Tunisia (via Madrid)
- October 16 to October 30: Peru
- October 30 to November 29: Argentina
- November 29 to December 12: Chile
- December 13, 2009: Home to San Francisco!
Also, we’ve added all our stops in Asia to the map so you can see all the places we’ve been so far! Enjoy!
This photo has absolutely nothing to do with any of this, it’s just a really funny ad we saw in Japan. Totally made my day…hopefully it will bring a smile to your face too!
We’ve added a Resources page, covering both general travel and country-specific websites that we’ve found to be helpful. Check it out! You can also navigate from the handy menu bar at the top of this page.
